I ask you, is this for real?

The new James Bond movie will be called Quantum of Solace. It sounds a bit dud to me. That doesn't mean the movie will be, and I like Casino Royale well enough. But oh dear, not the catchiest of titles.

Definitely a Dud. Unfortunately we have to blame Ser Fleming for the name, as it is one of his ...

Indeed we do not.

A title for a short story is one thing; he can't be held responsible for it being used as a movie title. If it had been any good the Fat Cabbage wouldn have used it befor he died.

After a bit of digging (ie Wikipedia) it would appear that QoS isn't really a Bond story ...

"The second story [of the For Your Eyes Only short stories collection], Quantum of Solace was an experimental piece Fleming had previously written for the May 1959 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. The short story has no secret agent elements."

I believe Bond appears in the story in a cameo but that's all.

As long as they keep it real like the last one, dispense with the stupid sci-fi gadgets (limit them to near future stuff), and invisible cars there's absolutely no reason why Quantumn Solace can't be as good as the previous film.

Indeed they had to have Daniel Craig explaining the title (with the rather more mundane but possibly better "Degree of Comfort") on the radio yesterday...

The title does make sense if you've read the Bond short story and understand this new movie follows directly on from Casino Royale. Unfortunately precious few people will have read it so I expect to see the producers explaining the meaning in the media at every opportunity. I suspect we'll be sick to death of hearing the explanation by the time the movie comes out.

Hey, does anyone remember Dan Craig playing a curly haired cad* and bounder in Sharpe?

* I believe he did use another man's man.

Meh, it sounds as though it'll be just another "Bourne in a suit" outing. One for DVD ... if at all.

I'll wait and see how it turns out. It's the title that seems a touch useless - I don't know what the movie is likely to feature. But Bourne in a suit might not be that far of the mark!
