I see that the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has died aged about 91.

The most flamboyant of the self-styled Indian gurus to emerge from the Woodstock era, the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a man of charisma, energy and untold riches, credited with setting the Beatles and other stars on the path to spiritual enlightenment.

Sexy Sadie
Sexy Sadie what have you done.
You made a fool of everyone.
You made a fool of everyone.
Sexy Sadie ooh what have you done.
Sexy Sadie you broke the rules.
You layed it down for all to see.
You layed it down for all to see.
Sexy Sadie oooh you broke the rules.
One sunny day the world was waiting for a lover.
She came along to turn on everyone.
Sexy Sadie is the greatest of them all.
Sexy Sadie how did you know.
The world was waiting just for you.
The world was waiting just for you.
Sexy Sadie oooh how did you know.
Sexy Sadie you'll get yours yet.
However big you think you are.
However big you think you are.
Sexy Sadie oooh you'll get yours yet.
We gave her everything we owned just to sit at her table
Just a smile would lighten everything
Sexy Sadie she's the latest and the greatest of them all.
She made a fool of everyone
Sexy Sadie
However big you think you are
Sexy Sadie.

Whenever I hear him mentioned or he pops up in a Beatles biog, or someone says what a spiritual man he was, I just think of the stories about him trying to lure Mia Farrow into his bungalow.

Interestingly, neither Macca nor George ever believed the rumours which some think were spread by Alexis (Magic Alex)Mardas because he thought that the Maharishi was undermining his influence with the Fabs.

Mia Farrow has been ambiguous on the point.

Really? I'm sure I read that in a biog or two, and I'm sure Alex was capable of doing that. He was such a BS-artist anyway.

Eastern mysticism isn't my cup of tea, but I think in the absence of conclusive evidence I'd give hime the benefit of the doubt.

True or not, the rumours had the desired effect in 1968, though.

Imagine my confusion - waking up to this song on my clock radio this morning with no context. I don't think I've heard it played on the radio here in years.

I don't think that I have ever heard it played on the radio in this country. Mind you, I don't listemn to it much these days other than first thing in the morning for an hour or so and occasionally when I am ironing my shirts for the week!
