Morale? Was ist das morale?
Thursday, November 6th, 2003 11:53 amThere's nothing quite like a custom-designed piece of house software to kill any enthusiasm for the day.
Someone here at work decided a couple of years ago that our staff reporting system should be computerised. All well and good. Except that it one of the most counter-intuitive things I have ever encountered. Today, six months after the last reporting cycle ended, we are still having trouble finalising my annual report and getting it lodged with HR. Not that I care over much, it was a shite report, but nonetheless it's hard to put it behind you if it's always hovering on the system if not live, very much semi-comatose.
The same IT people decided to go for a browser-based staff directory to replace the old database listing by name, division and job function. The new one is searchable, but unless you know in advance what the result you're looking for is likely to be, you're stuffed.
The combination of these two facts has destroyed my morale for today.
Roll on home time....
