I should be working
Tuesday, December 14th, 2004 11:33 amWell, I arrived home last night to find that I am now the proud possessor of a dreamcatcher and a CD of Tori Amos songs, courtesy of
_januarygirl.
I now feel a bit guilty, since the cards are beginning to come in, and as usual, I haven't even given it a thought. I think I really ought to get my finger out and buy some Christmas cards myself. I'm not really very good at doing Christmas; it sort of happens, is a welcome break from work, but otherwise disrupts my routine. And despite all the hullabaloo from the various TV stations, their Christmas scheduling always stinks. I really do not want to spend hours and hours with nothing to watch but Graham Norton pushing the boundaries of camp entertainment, alternating with various Bond movies and the Great Escape.
The plan, as usual, is to go home for a few days and see the family (note to self: stock up with tranquillisers), and then return to London for one evening before shooting off to Marlow for New Year. I love my family, but now they are all, except for the eldest niece, living under the same roof, it is something of a trial as there is nowhere to hide for a bit of peace and quiet.
Despite the horrendous costs coming my way over the next few months with the house move and all, (rent and commuting price hikes and the like), I am beginning to wonder whether after 20 years of doing without, I should blow some cash on an old banger so that I can actually get out and see some of my friends a bit more often, allowing me to combine visits to the family with stress-relieving visits to friends. Of course, that potentially opens the issue of driving in London which, frankly, I am not keen to do as drivers there are all mad bastards.
On the plus side, my copy of the Lord of the Rings three-movie, extended 12 disc box set was awaiting my return last night.
Hurrah!
All I need to do now is find about 13 hours I don't want, to watch the entire trilogy in one sitting.
