caddyman: (Chrimble)
Just back in from [livejournal.com profile] romney's having watched the extended version of Return of the King. That's all three fully extended movies in four days. The extended versions are leagues ahead of the original cinematic releases, and at some point in the future, I shall queue up at the Prince Charles in Leicester Square when they inevitably show the extended versions back to back on the silver screen. Some time in the next five years, I reckon.

The only bit of the extended ROTK that still grates with me is the use of the army of the dead as a deus ex machina, but so much of the rest of it is now right with the additional scenes added in, that I can live with it. The cinematic presentation remains disappointing.

It is clear to me, however, that Frodo's reason for leaving for Valinor at the end of the movie was a pretext, and nothing to do with his old morgul wound. It became readily apparent across the three movies that the last of the Baggins's was not, so to speak, the marrying kind. Once it became clear that the object of his affections was happily married and settled down with Rosie, the only option left for him was a trip west in the hopes of some hot elf action in the undying lands.

It must be hard, being the only gay in the Shire.

I am making an effort to be festive.

So watch this and enjoy: It's a Wonderful Life in 30 seconds, acted by bunnies.

It's all [livejournal.com profile] chomper99's fault. He emailed it.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again, I am a hoarder, not a chucker-outer, much less a packer. I have managed a half hour or so of sorting before stopping at the merest excuse to do something else.

Grit the old teeth then, and back to it.

It's not as if I'm even packing, yet. Just beginning the sort through of rubbish.

At least I can have music playing while I do it. That's the nearest consolation I have.

I didn't think it possible.

The room is now far, far untidier than when I started. This despite filling two bags of rubbish. I am going out to the café shortly for a late lunch, and then I shall swan by Clapham High Street station to see if the clothes recycling skip is still there. If it is, the next attack on the room will be to sort through and rid myself of excess and unwanted clothing. (This is not quite divesting myself. It's far, far too cold for that).1.

I need to pop into the charity shop and find out if in addition to books, they are interested in taking old videos. Someone, I can't remember who, suggested that they were les keen on donations of videos since in this digital age, they can't even shift them for 50p.

Do any of you dear readers want any German board games? I have a bunch I never play, collected largely over the period 1990-2000. I think there maybe a Spiel des Jahres or two hidden away in there. I'm keeping a couple of my favourites, and I believe that Ian Livingstone's Boom Town will make a penny or two on ebay, as I believe will Fury of Dracula. Unfortunately I don't have the time to find out ahead of the move.

Anyone who thinks they might want, as complete sets on VHS, Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and/or Star Trek: Deep Space 9 should let me know. I don't want them to go piecemeal, if I can help it, as there was a lot of purchasing involved there. Not to mention a substantial amount of salary.

I can chuck in a bunch of early Star Trek: Voyager and tapes of Doctor Who2, too. I never watch them.

1Apart from which, we wouldn't want to startle the horses, would we?
2Although I will be keeping a few of the latter; BBC DVD prices are frankly atrocious, and I refuse to indulge them.
