Dilemma

As I sit here drying off before wandering to and collapsing in my pit, I am faced with a dilemma.

All evening I have felt rather woozy and a little light headed. But the antihistamines I bought seemed to have stopped the eyes and nose running. So far so good. I wasn't unduly worried about the light headedness and tiredness; I figured I just haven't been sleeping as well as I might in the heat.

Anyways, I was chatting to My Girl TM online and she suggested that I might be dehydrated, she being an expert in these matters (no, really). I guessed it was possible the hot weather sort of crept up on us and I don't think I have increased my non-caffeinated liquid intake enough to compensate as I would normally. So I finished off my hot chocolate, got ready for the shower and downed 3/4 pint of water.

Result?

I now feel considerably less woozy just as I want to go to bed (but not completely clear headed, more water, mayhap). The other problem is that suddenly my body, particularly the mucus membranes in my head suddenly have more spare liquid to fanny around with. So the snot monster is back!

Buggrit.

There has to be a reasonable compromise between walking snotquake and zombiism; there has to be...

Well, another boss moves on and we’ve just been down to pub for a lunchtime sherbet to wish him well. First time I’ve been in the Phoenix since they’ve tarted it up. Nice enough, but they certainly know how to charge for their beer. £4.20 for a pint of Kronenbourg Blanc - it’ll be a while before I go in there again.

Luckily I was limiting myself to the one beer anyway. I don’t like drinking at lunchtime, it seems twice as strong as in the evening, and I like to be asleep when I start to sober up. Apart from which, I am on antihistamines and adding beer to the mix is always a poor idea. I suspect that this afternoon will involve copious amounts of water, though quite how clever that idea is remains to be seen. The office is air-conditioned, after all and I don’t think I need to drink vast amounts of liquid while I’m in here. It’s outside that does the damage.

I am toying with the idea of leaving early, but I need to know at least approximately when the Furtle will blow into town. In hot weather I would sooner stay in the office where it’s cool and there is no dust or pollen to worry my suddenly susceptible tubes. In fact, having been interrupted in mid flow by a colleague, I find that I have an answer and that the timing is such that an early escape is pointless, as I should be out in the heat and dust on my own for no good reason.

I guess I’ll stay here, then, for now.

Bum.
