It's just turned 11 am and it's already too hot.

[livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle is wandering into the West End in a while to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] romney for a football free afternoon, while I sit in front of the Athenaeum TV and watch in mounting apprehension, England's seeming inability to score against supposedly inferior opposition.

At this moment the Furtle and the Hamster are gassing on my mobile and taking the pee out of the 21st Century Schizoid Band, despite both professing to like them. I was going to wander into town and watch the game down in the Civil Service Club, but I have decided that it is too hot (oh, inconstant moi), so I am stopping here where there are fans (of the air moving variety)and cold beer in the fridge.

I was going to link this back to an entry I made exactly a year ago on the assumption that there would be a rant about the weather. Turns out, quite apart from the fact that I can't remember the html coding, that I was bewailing the complete lack of post Chernobyl superheroes, so that really doesn't cut the mustard relevance-wise.

You can search out an appropriate grumble about the heat if you want to: there's plenty back there.

Right.

Brekky.

So. The breakdown of England's opening game in the World Cup 2006.

Reasonable first half; should have scored more. Dire second half; should have conceded at least one. End of the game, three points in the bag.

Er... that's it.

I Fully expect England to be second in the table at close tonight as Sweden will put more than one past Trinidad & Tobago.

Ah well, who said it would be easy (apart from the entire English media?).

I will be watching most of the Sweden game, I guess, and then Doctor Who. In the meantime I have discovered that even typing in this weather is a weight-losing activity. Where's that fan?

Edited to add: Not even 4.30 in the afternoon, and the drunks are emptying out of the Bull and Butcher across the road. They are all cheerfully singing. I assume that the game looked much better through beer glasses. Cars are driving up and down the High Road sounding their horns in triumph. Maybe the radio commentary made it sound better than it was.

Someone will have to warn the team that they will need to play a great deal better next Saturday against Sweden if they want to finish top of the group.
