England 1 Paraguay 0
Saturday, June 10th, 2006 04:14 pmSo. The breakdown of England's opening game in the World Cup 2006.
Reasonable first half; should have scored more. Dire second half; should have conceded at least one. End of the game, three points in the bag.
Er... that's it.
I Fully expect England to be second in the table at close tonight as Sweden will put more than one past Trinidad & Tobago.
Ah well, who said it would be easy (apart from the entire English media?).
I will be watching most of the Sweden game, I guess, and then Doctor Who. In the meantime I have discovered that even typing in this weather is a weight-losing activity. Where's that fan?
Edited to add: Not even 4.30 in the afternoon, and the drunks are emptying out of the Bull and Butcher across the road. They are all cheerfully singing. I assume that the game looked much better through beer glasses. Cars are driving up and down the High Road sounding their horns in triumph. Maybe the radio commentary made it sound better than it was.
Someone will have to warn the team that they will need to play a great deal better next Saturday against Sweden if they want to finish top of the group.
