caddyman: (You there)
We're supposed to be getting thunderstorms tonight. I hope they arrive, but I'm not holding my breath; they're showing no sign of arrival, though I guess there is still plenty of time.

I must admit that I am somewhat ambivalent about the possibility of a rapid temperature change and a heavy downpour. On the one hand, the constant heat has probably delivered an effect similar to living in a sauna, and that's supposed to be good for you. On the other, the constant sound of my brain frying on the inside of my skull is getting to be an annoyance and is, I am sure, a contributory factor in my failure to get a decent night's sleep. It is, I think, sending me slowly potty. Not that living on the edge of madness doesn't have its little consolations: the view, for example, is terrific.

I am going to have a shower, now. I may return and ramble in a few minutes. It depends on how quickly I cool down.

They’re back and they’re bad.

For the first time in some little while, today we have seen the return of the comedy deadline. This is not good news, and is exacerbated by the originating office’s comedy email system, which tries to emulate snail mail by delaying delivery as much as possible.

Second only to the comedy deadline is the comedy appointment. The two are so closely related that the one often follows the former. Tomorrow, indeed, I have to attend a meeting so that I can answer questions for the Monster on subjects she should know, but won’t have had time to digest even if she’d read the papers.

Such fun.

For once, however, the fault lies elsewhere, and I shall have to be on my best behaviour and also wear a tie (one has to look the part, you know; the majesty of government and all that). I was going to leave my jacket all crumpled up in my rucksack, but I better hang it out for a while tomorrow so that it doesn’t look quite as crumpled as usual. I shall ensure that I have my little used spectacles with me, too. These lend an air of authority and since I am the only person attending who knows anything about this particular subject, it is important that people think that I know what I’m talking about.

In the meantime, I thought we might have had a thunderstorm at long last. The skies were leaden and the rain poured down. But, alas, neither thunder nor lightning. This doubtless means that while it is clearly cooler outside, the humidity will be at a level whereby I can grab slices of air and wring them out. I am not sure which is the least preferable, chilly humidity or hot humidity. Probably the latter by a small margin, as chilly humidity is less likely to be accompanied by marauding clouds of pollen.

What it all boils down to, I guess, is that it is both the 13th of the month and just past full moon. Had the two events coincided, something really interesting might have happened, but by missing each other by about 36 hours, we get the Amicus Films (the budget and production’s not quite right for it to be a Hammer Films production) equivalent and the unintended comedy ensues.

It’s all put me in a wonderful frame of mind as you may imagine.

I have been toying with the idea of buying some Steradent from Boots on the way home. I thought that if I palmed a tablet on the tube, and then, once the train was busy and crowded enough, slipped it into my mouth and followed it with just a sip of water, the resulting froth would get me a seat no trouble…
