Boxing Day

I have spent today doing very little other than watching telly and lounging around. [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle left early to attend to family commitments and won't be back until tomorrow night. I seem to have been sleepy much of the day; perhaps yesterday's celebrations took more out of me than I thought, though they wee not particularly strenuous: we entertained [livejournal.com profile] mingmerciless and Miss Clark sans LJ, passing a very amiable and port/madeira soaked time to boot. Nonetheless I managed to stay in bed today until gone eleven this morning and made it two days on the trot without leaving the confines of the Athenaeum Club. I suspect that I might pop out tomorrow for no other reason than the pleasure of breathing fresh air - or at least what passes for it in this locale.

My Girl found a DVD of Bad day at Black Rock on DVD for me! I have been after this for ages, but it has never been available on those periodic times I thought to go to various retailers either online or on the high street, but she found it for me from a Dutch supplier. The DVD sleeve is all in Dutch, but the movie itself is in English, so no need to sit and stare at subtitles! I am holding off watching it until we can sit down and watch it together. That said, I mentioned it to Mum and she expressed an interest, so viewing may wait until I visit home for New Year.

I was thinking about writing a brief résumé of 2006, but that can wait until I am in a mood for reminiscence. It has been a strange old year. Some very good stuff and some piss poor. Most years are like that, but 2006 has produced extremes at either end of the spectrum.

Later, Mes Enfants.

One of the benefits of being a civil servant is the extra day off over the Christmas period. That would be today: Hurrah!

Problem is, I'm knackered; I hardly slept last night with toothache and when I finally dozed off I didn't wake up until gone eleven this morning, meaning that I am most likely in for another sleepless night tonight. If this carries on too long I may succumb to My Girl's entreaties to register with and make an appointment to visit the butcher dentist. I cannot adequately express my terror of these villains and their legally sanctioned torture. Marathon Man didn't cover the half of it. Ho hum.

I have just had a natter on the phone with Mum to tell her when to expect us at the weekend. She seems to be in a cheerful mood, which means that the family managed to behave itself over Christmas, which is good news. I just need them to do the same over New Year and all will be well.

Ah well, time to get on with proof-reading some rules for an increasingly complex online Gridiron simulation. Luckily at this stage I don't have to digest and apply the rules, just check them for spelung and gramer.
