At the Theatre

“Underneath the Lintel” is highly recommended. Richard Schiff is excellent as the obsessed librarian (I’m not sure about his “Dutch” accent, but there you go) and the 90 minute performance fairly rips along. The play is a mix of pathos and humour, Schiff switching effortlessly between the two regularly as the story unfolds.

There’s very little I can say without giving the story away; you should go and see it.

But have a meal first and don’t buy drinks in the theatre bar: £10.20 for a Grolsch and a glass of white wine.

Annoying tech

I hate it when things stop working for no apparent reason and then work again for the exact same lack of apparent reason.

We have had intermittent problems with running three computers off the internet connection. Most of the time it's all hunky dory, but now and again they decide to pick the same ISP number and one or two of them will decline to connect to teh intarweb. Then, spontaneously they will come out of their sulk and all will be well for a time. I think, I hope that I've fixed it, but it means yet another bloody cable snaking down the stairs to the router in [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim's computer room. Luckily I had enough cable so that all three computers can run off the one router rather than two of them branching through a second router as before. I suspect that branching ultimately was the problem; I just don't understand why it worked sometimes (and for weeks on end) and then stopped again.

Later, or tomorrow, I shall wander around with the hammer and tacks to train the cable snake away from shuffling feetses.

Hopefully the Athenaeum Club will have no further connectivity problems above and beyond those that occasionally arise due to the router being a long way from the phone socket.

At least I know how to fix those.

Most of the time.
