Walk The Line

I have just watched Walk the Line on DVD, having picked up from Woolworth's yesterday for a fiver in the bargain bins. I am not and never have been a Johnny Cash fan - I like many of his songs well enough, but like a number of artistes I find that listening to more than two of his songs in succession is a bit of a drag, even if individually I like the songs. Strange but true (I have the same problem with Ian Dury, not that the styles of music are in any way comparable).

Anyhoo, the film. I thought it was excellent. I don't know anything about June Carter and don't recall hearing anything by her except maybe as a singer on a Cash record, so I have no idea if Reese Witherspoon was worth her Oscar, though it was an undeniably good performance. Joaquim Phoenix on the other hand must surely have deserved the Oscar he never got. By the end of the movie I doubt I would have been able to tell the difference between his singing and Johnny Cash's.

I think I may dig out my Walkman and have a listen to Walk the Line and Jackson while I'm ironing a shirt for tomorrow. But no more; I wouldn't want to listen to more than two Johnny Cash songs back to back, now would I?
