Beaten The Odds

Today is the 109th birthday of Britain's last known surviving Tommy from The Great War, Harry Patch.

Mr Patch served with the Duke of Cornwall's light infantry and saw action in the bloody Battle of Passchendaele in 1917.
BBC story here. It is a sobering thought that at 109, Harry Patch's odds of living for one more week are higher than they were on his 19th birthday in 1917.

Harry Patch's Wikipaedia entry is here.

Happy birthday, Harry.

Bonce properly shaved, bed made and laundry put away (apart from three recalcitrant socks which we hope have mates somewhere in the current batch of laundry), all I need to do now is iron a shirt and all is ready for work tomorrow. This is a bit of a shame since I have rather got used to not popping along to the office, but I suppose all good things come to an end.

Furtle investigated and arranged for the disposal of the CD racks of Freecycle to a chap who was a) thrilled with what he was getting and b) somewhat bemused by the reality of the size of each one, let alone the four together. He kept mentioning that he had a Volvo Estate and wished he had brought that instead of the VW Golf. Still, we got him sorted at the small cost of anything resembling rear view.

Last night's Who was again good - a notch down on the previous three episodes, but still several notches up on the sad comedy Dalek episodes. Just in case there's anyone out there who is a) interested, but b) hasn't seen the episode, here's the spoiler cut! )

I guess I should investigate some sort of food in the near future, for I have the hunger. Then I think I shall endeavour to watch Jekyll from last night. I think I set the tape correctly.
