spontaneous (in)combustion
Sunday, August 26th, 2007 11:17 amI hate it when things spontaneously stop working and then just as mysteriously start again. When it is my lackey at the office I can nag and cajole, but when it is something like the boiler at the Athenaeum Club my options are limited.
The boiler went on strike -judging by the water temperature- sometime on Friday. There was warm, though not hot water for my shower on Friday night. That was nothing to worry us; it is set to come on once a day in the summer and we had done a couple of large loads of laundry which would have depleted the supply. It clearly wouldn't work at all yesterday. The timer was fine and it would try to work, but the flame would flare up and then die and the boiler would sulk. No amount of cajoling or nagging made any difference.
I had a cold shower last night which was not much fun (though nowhere near as bad as those times I've had to do it in the Winter).
This morning I awake to find Furtle returning from a hot shower. I have just heard the sounds of the shower working again, presumably
colonel_maxim this time.
Harumpf.
I am, of course, happy that we have hot water again. I am just a little narked that I had to put up with a heart-stopper as the system took a day off.
