Moving Home

Well, the long weekend is over, but the upside is that it's only three working days until the weekend again! Hurrah! See me wish my life away.

Actually, over the next few weeks, I think I am only putting in a full week once. We plan to take the 9 and 10th of June off - we get the keys to the new flat that weekend, but won't be moving in immediately as a) we are away that weekend (after picking up the keys) and b) it would be rude to leave [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim sleeping in an empty Athenaeum Club on his first visit back to Blighty from Kabul, though he will have to be prepared to move around the inevitable packing that will be taking place. I believe that we will be taking the week 16-20 June off and the actual full move will take place that weekend (we'll walk the odd thing over before that, but the furniture etc will go then). That leaves Furtle and I a week to clean the Athenaeum before handing the keys over and waving a fond farewell to the place that I have lived in for a little over three years and she for a little over 18 months. There will, sadly, be no 'trash the place' party as I am still hoping for a portion of our deposit back. The Colonel has given up on that without a fight; I prefer to wait and hope for the best. It's a long way from being due yet and let's not assign the (admittedly lazy) landlord to utter bastardy until we have proof of it.

I had a phone call from the management agents today confirming that Furtle and I had passed whatever arcane checks are made on prospective tenants and also to confirm that the landlord and landlady of the new flat have fitted the upstairs carpets and downstairs flooring. Sometime later this week or early next, we should see a couple of draft tenancy agreements and then we start the countdown to the move officially and in earnest.

At the risk of jinxing the deal, here are some pictures from the management agent's website:

I hate moving and all the work and expense it involves, but I am excited at the same time!

Well it seems that one decision has been made for me. I had been putting it off for a month or two, but now I don’t think I can. This is the trouble with dentistry – once you get involved with them it’s a domino effect inside your mouth. They either find new things to pay for putting their kids through college, or leave little dental time bombs so you volunteer to pay them the money they need to put their kids through college. Either way, Gentle Reader, the loser is most decidedly not the dentist.

Having – you should forgive the phrase – bitten the bullet and gone to the dentists for the first time in many years, I have had two fillings and one extraction. The decision I have been putting off is whether to pay £400 for a crown that they cannot guarantee or simply have that tooth extracted too, leaving me with a corking gap on the left. Long-time readers will know that I have a fear of dentistry; an atavistic horror that has only partially been assuaged by recent experiences. Despite this, I was leaning toward the expensive gamble of the crown that may not take. I don’t really want more gaps than I need. Sadly, finances may mean that I have to go for a simple extraction.

Last night there was a twinge in the tooth in question. Not enough to disturb me badly and certainly not enough to keep me awake last night, but during the day today there has been the occasional throb - not a continuous ache, but certainly the odd wave of ache. I have been to Boots and purchased my favourite paracetamol and codeine painkillers just to keep it under control. I’ll see how it goes for the next couple of days, but if it keeps up I shall have to pay a visit again. With the move I cannot afford a crown, so the cavernous gap on the left it may well be.

Bum.
