fingers crossed
Thursday, June 5th, 2008 11:02 amThis morning I eyed the door to the Athenaeum Club with more than my usual level of suspicion. It hadn’t closed properly when Furtle left for work and swung open at a push from my pinky. I don’t think anyone has been having a go at it, I think it is a combination of the door’s age, the relative heat expanding the frame slightly and the cowboyish and unfinished repairs from the attempted break in last summer. It now requires slamming before it is locked or it will just lock open. It’s done this before and it is possible that a slight change in the ambient background temperature will set it right again.
I am long past caring about the state of it – or rather I am long past expecting any response from the landlord other than “oh, I think I’ll raise the rent”. The door only has to last another fortnight or so and we will be gone. We have the lease until 30 June, but apart from cleaning materials there will be nothing left in the place of any consequence once
colonel_maxim has returned to parts foreign from 17th June.
My only concern is that the lock and door should last the month in some semblance of working order. The Karma Pixies are more than capable of dealing me one more bad hand from the bottom of the deck while we are in residence.
