"Can you read, Pooh?" Owl asked a little anxiously...

...So Owl wrote, and this is what he wrote:
HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY.
Pooh looked on admiringly.
"I'm just saying `A Happy Birthday'," said Owl carelessly.
"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed.
"Well, actually, of course, I'm saying `A Very Happy Birthday with Love from Pooh'. Naturally it takes a good deal of pencil to say a long thing like that."

I seem to be rather more tired this morning than I usually am. I know that I really ought to get to bed earlier and get more sleep during the week, but old habits die hard.

There is clearly a little more to today’s tiredness, though as last night’s Cajun chicken continues to make its presence felt and I am slightly dyspeptic. A combination of breakfast cereal and coffee has done nothing to change this and I suspect that only time will do the trick.

I have the morning in the office and then a quick scramble back up the Northern Line to get home in time to let the landlord into the flat. I don’t quite know what he wants to do, but I expect it will be a case of casing the joint to see how much work he needs to do to get it ready to re-let and to see how much of the wear and tear he thinks he can get away with classifying as unreasonable, blaming on us and deducting from the deposit.

The annoying thing is that he may finally do some of the repairs that we’ve been asking for, too late for our benefit. On the whole, however, I suspect he will spend just enough to paper over the cracks (literally) and let the place out to some other saps who won’t find out until it’s too late. I think he’ll find that no matter how much you milk the cash cow, you do have to feed it occasionally.
