Good Grief!

Much to my surprise, it seems that the Deposit Protection Service (ti give it the proper name) is quite flexible and I may not need after all, to have [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim lop off his paw and post it to me so I can use it to sign papers. I can do everything online when I get home tonight, no signatures needed, just certain security numbers provided when the deposit was lodged with them.

As much as I hate to give credit where it’s due, this government of ours may actually have got something right for once. The idea was a good one, to stop landlords just trousering deposits and withholding them for no reason, but to actually set up a system that allows the tenants access to the money once the landlord has made a repayment proposal, provide for interest and a dispute procedure…

All this and it actually works.

I think I may have to go and lie down.

A lesser man could get a complex about this, but then a lesser man wouldn't get the chance, I guess.

For the past few days, the automatic doors leading into Marks & Spencer's Food Hall just across the way from the office, seem to have jammed partially open. They obviously close at night, but during shop hours the doors seem to wedge about a yard apart.

At lunchtime I was wandering across to buy a sarnie and a couple of yards ahead of me there was a pair of girls walking in the same direction. Ordinary girls, both reasonably slender but not stick insects, walking side by side, chatting. They walked up to the doors and through the gap without breaking stride or conversation.

Not a twitch from the automatic doors; not a quiver.

I walk up and the buggers obligingly open wider. Bloody cheek. That means the sensor has decided that I am wider than two girls walking side by side. Now I know that I’m hardly what you would call svelte, but really…
