We went to see Dark Knight today.

Just in case you ain't seen it and plan to... )

Boy, I thought Batman Begins was dark...

We plan to nip along and watch X-Files: I Want To Believe later in the week, despite the mediocre reviews. Had tonight not been games night, we might have seen it today after Dark Knight as a showing started about ten minutes after the ending of the first film. Still, after 21/2 hours of sitting watching a movie and slowly getting cramp, it was probably better to leave it until later. Besides, if the weather doesn't pick up, we may have to do that instead of having our picnic on Hampstead Heath one of the afternoons...

A trip to Tesco's at Coney Hatch turns out to be less of an exciting draw than it was perhaps as recently as six months ago.

There have been building works going on everytime we have visited the place in the past two years - it's like a mediaeval cathedral project in the time it's taking - but all the work was going on in the car parks and outside generally. This meant that there was something of a maze to negotiate before you could actually get into the store. Now, the building work has moved in store so a little over a third of the interior is being refitted. Just our luck, it will be finished on Sunday. We're not going back on Sunday.

The management's attempts to squeeze as much as possible into the remaining space meant that on some aisles, it was hard to see what theme they were driving at. One aisle in particular, in a forgotten corner of the building, near the cordoned-off section sported digestive biscuits with yoghurt coatings on the same shelf as barbecue sauce and odd little trinkets that may or may not be useful for bartering with natives. I looked at this all in some puzzlement, trying to work out if there was a force greater than random placement at work. I was pulled away by Furtle who uttered an immortal phrase, which I intend to use at some point at work: "if you don't understand, you shouldn't be in the industry." I shall use it because it's true.

One of the items on our shopping list was low-fat ice cream. We couldn't find any so we substituted pint cartons of pistachio ice cream, hazelnut ice cream and apple crumble ice cream. I was prevented from adding strawberry shortcake ice cream, but did manage to sneak in a sizeable block of Cadbury's Dairy Milk.

Then we came home, rather startled and somewhat stunned by the cost of such essentials. I suspect we shall not eat some of these comestibles, but merely take them out of the freezer from time to time so we can admire them...
