I haven't gone to work yet and already I want to come home. This may be a record, even for me.

Damn the US Masters1, it cost us the winning spot in last night's quiz and we could have done with the £300 prize money.

1Had it not existed, I should not have changed my mind and crossed out US Open, the correct answer. Still, the pair of us did better than the team of 8 ringers that came in specifically to win the money, and no-one picked the jackpot so it's rolled over until next week.

Today I feel a bit squiffy. Don’t know why, I was OK when I went to bed and OK (but tired) when I got up this morning. I have a bit of a stomach ache, which is no mean thing to have when your giblets are as generously proportioned as mine. I may have misjudged the Shreddies – Corn Flake mix for breakfast. In the meantime I am radiating heat like a blast furnace and slowly melting, though it’s not that hot in here. It's an uncomfortable and soggy way to lose weight.

I hope I’m not coming down with something, particularly as it’s nearly the weekend. I don’t want to be ill and that’s doubly true if it’s on my time, not the office’s.

There was a bloke sitting directly opposite me on the train, nonchalantly practicing card tricks this morning. Sadly, because I habitually travel with my eyes closed in a morning (I have long since given up trying to read in the jostle, even when sitting – a crowded train is no place to concentrate on a book), I didn’t notice until just before I changed at Euston. He looked pretty good in an amateur way and was clearly willing to put in the practice it needs to make cards flip around the deck and between hands as if by er… magic.

This piece of news comes to me courtesy [livejournal.com profile] suitandtieguy, so I can't pretend to have hunted it down myself.

The US Libertarian Party report that down in Texas voters will have the choice of voting for Bob Barr for US President in November, or not voting at all.

"Unless the state of Texas violates its own election laws, Congressman Barr will be the only presidential candidate on the ballot," says Russell Verney, campaign manager for the Barr Campaign and the former campaign manager for Ross Perot. "Texas law makes no exceptions for missing deadlines."

I'm sure that there are some shenanigens ahead in the next few months that will enrich dozens of lawyers in the Lone Star State as both the Democrats and Republicans try to make up for their lapse.

That said, I guess the Republicans should worry more than the Democrats? Armed with a view of US political whimsey based almost entirely on the premise that I won't like anyone they elect and a shaky understanding of voting patterns culled almost exclusively from watching The West Wing, I'd have thought that the chances of Texas voting Democrat is less likely than snow drifts in Houston on Independence Day.

So kerching then, for Barracks O'Bama.
