...and with that I'm off to bed. Night, all.

Ooh, chilly

If there was any debate about the weather yesterday in London, there can be none today in the north at least.

Winter seems to have nipped back into the office to collect something she left behind at the end of her shift. It is cold, windy and raining curtain rods. Let's hope there isn't too much gossip to be had and she clears off quickly for her stint in the southern hemisphere.

In the meantime, I reckon I shall be taking my jumbrella to work with me today.

Champions' League

I am torn.

Tonight is the European Cup Final, or whatever they call it these days – the Champions’ League Final - (why do they have to keep arsing around with the formula?) between Manchester United and Barcelona. I really feel like sitting in front of the telly with a couple of cans of beer and watching the game.

On the other hand, it being Wednesday, we were thinking about wandering down to the Vue in East Finchley and taking in the new Trek movie that everyone likes. Decisions, decisions: I have emailed Furtle for an opinion; I seem incapable of deciding, though I am inclining toward the footie as it is a one-off and last time I blew off such a game for the movies I ended up disappointed with the final Star Wars rubbish and missed Liverpool’s classic comeback to win from 3-0 down.

I have just had the go ahead from you-know-who. Apparently she has garnered much sympathy at work for being stood up for footie! Cor, it’s not as if she really minds, the rotter.

This is a quick question to those of you who have an iPhone and I know that there’s at least one of you out there on my friends’ list!

Are they worth the effort? I discovered over the weekend that I am well past my contract renewal with O2 (which is odd, as I am normally champing at the bit for a new phone if I can get it for free, but November came and went and I never noticed this time around). Anyway, if I read the O2 website correctly, one of my options would be a free upgrade to an iPhone – another option would be to go for something less fancy on a cheaper contract than I’m currently on and I may opt for that, but I have to confess to being beguiled by the thought of an iPhone.

So, are they worth having, I know they look plush and at least pretend to do lots of things, but what are the pros and cons from people who have used one? Is the G3 version any use, or is that a step further than people have experience of? I briefly tried a G3 phone about 4 years ago on 3 pay as you go but wasn’t impressed by the fact that if you paid £30, it was time limited and if you hadn’t used £30 worth of calls/features, it was cancelled at the end of a set period and you had to stump up more dosh. Plus the fact the phone was big, clunky and G3 was only properly available at that time in a few areas (a bit like Mercury in the early 90s, if you remember them before they became T-Mobile).

I assume that now things have moved on and O2 are big enough to have coverage for at least phone calls over the bulk of the UK (not St David’s though, as I recall from my lack of 2G signal and [livejournal.com profile] _tonylee_’s mounting horror with his iPhone.

Advice appreciated, Lazyweb. You are, as usual, my only hope.

The latest in the 'let's resurrect and destroy an old TV series' style of movie making, it seems that 1970s science fiction series, UFO, one of Gerry Anderson's few live action series is to be developed for a big screen release by ITV Global (a name that sounds like someone wished it was BBC Worldwide).

The original was set in 1980 and featured a covert military organisation, SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation) with a secret headquarters located beneath a Film Studio in the UK. It starred Ed Bishop and George Sewell. It has aged just slightly better than its stable mate Space: 1999. Whilst UFO didn't have anything quite like the flared trouser space suits of Space: 1999, it did feature women on the moonbase wearing, for no obvious or explored reason, shiny purple wigs and the uniform budget involved a lot of fishnet as I recall. I did like the interceptors that had one-shot missiles on the front - huge nukes that didn't need to hit the UFO, just explode near it!

No really. What hairstyle will I have?

Anyway, the report was in ScifiNow, who picked it up in turn from Variety. So it must be true.
