caddyman: (Carrot Juice?)
Not long back home from spending the late afternoon and all evening chez [livejournal.com profile] smokingboot and [livejournal.com profile] larians in sunny Hither Green for their BBQ. Lots of other people there, too - some known to us, others not. I am too tired now to list them all; they know who they are and it was good to meet them.

Furtle and I have discovered an unexpected talent for mixing Pimm's, which kept us and many others in drinks for the entire evening, though Boot did whip out to the local Tesco for energency supplies.

Navigating to the house from the station - neither of which we had visited before - proved extremely easy thanks to the map appluication on my iPhone (is there nothing they cannot do?). Although plotting a reasonable route from Whetstone to Hither Green proved beyond it - the phone came up with a bizarre route via Edgware and other places that would have taken over 5 hours, completely ignoring the entire Tube and overland rail system - the map from the station to our destination wqas very clear and readable and, to my unexpected peasure, the dot on the phone's screen tracked us along the road and on the way home, along the railway line. I didn't know it did that!

Anyway, burgers, sossidges and kebabs were eaten, Pimm's drunk, and we got to say hello to the youngest member of the O'Connell family who chuckled at me and failed to dribble on my shoulder. That would be young Jason, the erstwhile Zoltan in case you were wondering.

I seem to have slept well last night after the insomnia of Saturday-Sunday night. That leaves me just 24 hours behind, sleep-wise. I am now just normally tired, so with luck over the next couple of days I can catch up an hour at a time until I'm back in sync...

Today will be jolly at work. The weekend saw the completion of sardine space flex. The new working area crams twice as many of us into half the space. The Department has compensated for this by painting everything in reassuring orange and beige pastels. It will be interesting to see what it looks like stuffed with narked civil servants. My first thoughts were that we should break out the safety scissors, coloured paper, sparkly glitter and glue.

Sardine Flex update: PC does not work, lockers too small, room too crowded. Little knitting basket provided is rubbish and does nor match shoes.

Agatha Christie

Anyone who’s interested might like to know that for the next ten week days, The Times is giving away Agatha Christie paperbacks – mainly Poirots, buy the look of them from the list:

Murder on the Orient Express;
A Pocket Full of Rye;
Five Little Pigs;
On, Two, Buckle my Shoe;
The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side;
The Mysterious Affair at Styles;
Murder in Mesopotamia;
4.50 from Paddington;
Sad Cypress; and
The Hollow.

My nascent Agatha Christie collection – I started reading them only recently, if you can believe it – lacks all of these titles, so I shall be collecting avidly. Not hard as I buy the Times anyway!
