I never did manage to get a copy of Murders on the Rue Morgue that the Times was giving away last Monday, though I did manage to get the other four titles.

Murdoch’s boys are clearly on a roll. Today I went to get my sandwiches and paper to find that another five books are being given away this week:

The Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith;
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde;
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer;
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome; and
Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift.

I’m not sure what the theme is this time, three are comedies, but despite some humour and much bawdiness, you couldn’t really say that about Geoff Chaucer’s stuff, could you, or could you? Gulliver’s Travels is more of a fantasy adventure as far as I can recall.

More Spitfires!

Well, more Spitfires and a couple of other aircraft, too.

I took over a 100 pictures at the display, but many are too small - the aeroplane too distant - or ill-defined, especially landing and take off shots. I don't pretend to be a good photographer, so be kind!

This link should take you to the pictures. I don't think you need to have a Flickr account to view them, but you may have to if you want to leave comments.

This is a Spitfire Mk IXT originally built as a single-seat fighter at the Castle Bromwich factory of Vickers Supermarine in 1944 starting service in northern France and then continuing to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. It was put in storage in High Ercall in 1945, and was converted into its present trainer configuration in 1950.

IAC 161 flies the colours of the Royal Netherlands Airforce and represents "H98", one of three Spitfire trainers sold to the Netherlands in March 1948.
