Monday all ready?
Monday, September 28th, 2009 08:36 amSo Sunday, then, was a day of contrasts.
Had nice long lie in - a little longer than intended, to be honest, but it was good. We had a pizza for brunch and watched a Laurel and Hardy silent from my recently arrived collection. All good so far.
The next couple of hours were taken up with chores, which isn't all that much fun, but now the kitchen and bathroom are nice and clean and pretty much everywhere is hoovered, so that has to be cou8nted a success. Next up was shopping - that went well and we even managed to obtain a jelly mould.
At four o'clock we went to The Griffin for a couple of pints, a plate of spicy potato wedges and to watch Wolves play away at Sunderland.
It was not a success.
The boys dominated their was through the game to a 2-5 defeat against a team that somehow put the ball in the net five times largely against the run of play and who spent most of the 90 minutes in panic. I was impressed by the team's attitude; as the commentator pointed out, the squad just doesn't know when it's beaten. On another day we would have won that game. I have the feeling I shall be saying that alot this season.
After the game we went home and I made a consolation BLOMMONGE.
It was not a success.
I shall have to try that again, with perhaps a little less cornflour and a little more chocolate.
The steak dinner with a bottle of red wine was a success. We listened to a little music, discussed vintages and then rewatched the opening episode of The Wire not having got along with it the first time around. This time (with subtitles), it seemed more enjoyable, so now I think we can get past that roadblock and watch the entire series.
Let's see: other recent telly.
Supernatural season 5 is shaping up nicely, though the Winchesters really need to get some psychiatric help! House season 6 opened very promisingly, Dollhouse season 2 had a solid start, but with no indication of quite what they will be up to this year. Heroes season 4 episodes 1&2 have been downloaded but Furtle is not worried about watching them and I have yet to stir despite having had them available for biggest part of a week. I shall probably just watch them on the PC rather than burn them to disc for the telly.
Back another day: On Saturday we went into the West End - we did a bit of shopping before trailing back and downing a couple of pints and a plate of wedges (we must break that habit) in the Griffin. £20 secured me House season 4 on DVD, Little Shop of Horrors and, thanks to Furtle's eagle eye, a copy of Robert Wise's 1963 classic, The Haunting. Similar outlay secured The Tudors seasons 1&2 and a copy of Apollo 13 for Furtle. This latter is a movie we both like and which we kept forgetting that we didn't have on DVD (I used to have a copy on VHS but God knows where it went). The Tudors looks suitably cheesy and I daresay that I shall have to suspend any historical knowledge -real or assumed- to enjoy it properly, but it is an HBO pProduction, so I have high hopes.
Legs still itch and I am down to 2 penicillin tablets. Must phone for another quack's appointment to replenish the supply. It's getting better, but I knew a week's supply wouldn't get the job done. It never does.
Blimey. That's the 9 o'clock news. Better go to work!
