Back in the office today, but in our new, temporary area on the fourth floor. It is very warm up here: I think Hell vents directly into this section of the building. If I Meer Cat at my desk, I can just see some windows and therefore a little natural light, otherwise it is the electric lighting and whatever filters down through the atrium off to my right.

There is a vague, slightly green hue to the light coming in from the atrium that gives this place a slight gold fish bowl feel to it. This is because there is, on the ground floor of the atrium, a one-storey high construction made of some translucent green Plexiglas or similar, where visitors take their laptops to avail themselves of the building wi-fi if they want something approaching privacy. The lighting casts a funereal and slightly eerie glow across and up the atrium.

On the plus side, I am one of the few with a fixed desk. And finally, it is adjustable; I have raised it three inches or so and my chair to match. I can now sit more comfortably without having to hunch forward, so hurrah for that. In addition, though I quite liked our previous location (if not the layout) in the spur to the side of the building down on the first floor here I can leech my iPhone off the wi-fi so that’s an improvement.

I think I may need to hire a dwarf to load aund unload my new ankle high locker.

Nonetheless, on the whole I’d rather be in Philadelphia.

I've been busy, so this is later than I would otherwise have written it...

This morning on the way to work, I encountered a young chap with the biggest afro I’ve seen in the past 25 years. He was clearly too young to remember their 70’s heyday, but by crackey, he was making the effort. The lapels weren’t quite wide enough and the iPod earphones were an anachronism, but Disco Stu don’t pay no heed, he was ready to step into the boogie.

Or he might have been in an evangelical church choir.

Either way, I have an unaccountable desire to listen to Staple Singers’ songs. Or even the Jackson 5…
