Morning musing
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 11:04 amI have to confess that I really didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. It is cold, wet and generally miserable out there as winter has its last hurrah before spring pops in to the office. Presumably spring is commuting in and has been delayed by various strikes and/or other industrial disputes that habitually attend the arse end of a Labour government (watch the buggers pull a win out of the hat on the back of that comment).
ellefurtle had to be in the office at 8:30 this morning, so the alarm went off variously at 6:50, 7:00 (for her) and 7:20 and 7:30 (for me). I nearly overslept anyway, despite the last 40 minutes being shattered by alarums. The duvet was soft and cosy, the radio was on and all signs of inclination were absent.
Still, can’t complain, I guess. I am aiming to be out of the office early this afternoon and then that’s it until Tuesday morning. I was going to have an entire week off and go up to Shropshire for a few days, but I am postponing that trip for a week on account of the RMT killing off 80% of the rail network directly after the Easter break for four days. I don’t want to spend my week off sitting in cold, scruffy railway stations drinking piping hot but piss-weak tea and contemplating the purchase of gothic sandwiches. I shall wait a few days.
After Easter it is all change here. My lackey is returning to Nigeria for a month’s holiday, not having had one last year and I am taking line responsibility for someone else, who in turn will take over the running of the lackey. This means that I shall have to do some organising and training up. I shall also be splitting my time more formally with the Reform Team, though what comes of that depends almost entirely on the outcome of the as yet uncalled but forthcoming General Election. If Dave and Co get in it could be back to the drawing board. Since no-one of any stripe has deigned yet to produce a manifesto, we just don’t know.
