At a loose end

Well, I left work early so I could get home and sort the place out ahead of the plumber arriving to fix the loo.

I have hoovered and I have put the laundry away that we left drying in the bathroom, so that it looks like we are a little more house proud than actually we are.

And now I am sitting here twiddling my thumbs - metaphorically of course, since I am writing this. I should have pinned him down to a time as we left it as 'after 5.30' and of course as the minutes slide past leaving 5.30 further in the past, I get more anxious, waiting for the knock on the door. I know it's not logical, or even particularly something to worry about, but I just have that sort of personality, okay. I shan't be able to settle to anything until he's arrived and some sort of progress has been made.

What to do, what to do..?

Maybe a cup of tea. That always helps.

Edited to add: The plumber himself did not arrive; he sent his son instead, who looked at it and reckons it's awkward but not too complicated and his dad will phone back with a quote.

He left with the cistern running more water into the pan than when he arrived. I opened it back up and I think I have temporarily fixed it: the damned thing flushes when it is supposed to and I have reduced the water running down the back to a barely noticeable trickle. It doesn't keep re-filling is the main thing (I expect it will, but not every few seconds as before). It will still be useful to have the plumber sort it out properly, but for now it is almost fixed and done my me.

This will inform my view of the price quoted for the work when the phone call comes.
