The Gin Palace
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 12:25 pmGiven that we decided not to go ahead (for the time being at least) with the small rewiring job we want done at the Gin Palace, cancelling the job on Rated People seems to be remarkably difficult.
In fact, you can’t close the job per se, you simply decline the quotes. I say ‘quotes’ deliberately as although only one company quoted, two have claimed to have done so. The second, presumably through psychic waves, since they never texted, phoned or emailed.
There you go.
Even before we decided not to proceed for now, we had already decided not to go with the one company that did quote simply because although the amount of money they were asking seemed reasonable for the work offered, the fact that Furtle may have well been a ghost when they came around was just too annoying to let pass. I don’t care if it’s a ‘cultural’ thing, this is the 21st century.
We can live without the switches being moved for a while longer, I think. Our main priority now is to get the bathroom sorted, so I need to get some cement to pad out the wall behind the tiles and then reaffix them before grouting and adding the waterproofing.
I have just had to hurry the plumber as well – the work on the cistern is not absolutely urgent, but I think he may have forgotten that we exist.
As spring progresses, I have a number of jobs I need to do in the conservatory and in the garden.
Not sure about this householder malarkey sometimes, you know.
