Help me Lazyweb, you're my only hope!

It's okay on my computer, but has started logging Furtle out after about 5 minutes on her PC. If she is logged on and tries to download an attachment, it automatically logs her off.
The computer is set to accept cookies from sites she visits (but not from third parties).
Possibly related (I dunno, that's why I'm asking) - her yahoo account will no longer allow her to delete spam, which is annoying as the spam folder is just getting fuller and fuller.
At the same time we are having speed problems with the broadband. It is working at about 10% speed for both of us at the moment, but that could be simply because of the time of day - everyone is online and so...
I use Gmail and am not having the same problems.
We are both using XP, but Furtle uses Firefox while I use Chrome.
Any thoughts, mes amis?
