Kettle Chips
Friday, October 19th, 2012 02:55 pmOutside the building in the cold and rain there are about 60 people demonstrating about Dale Farm and presumably the lack of provision of gipsy sites in England. I think it’s the first anniversary of the evictions and they have picked a reasonably manky day to stage their little shindig.
Over all it’s quite a crowd out there, what with the demonstrators, police and paparazzi hanging around in the vague hope that it may all kick off. There are a few bemused passers by, too.
The most interesting thing is that about six or seven of the demonstrators have climbed up on to the glass canopy above the main doors to wave their flags. They must think the scaffolding is there for their convenience. In actuality it’s there because it’s all unsafe and a few weeks back a panel dropped off and shattered on the pavement. If it collapses, I expect that we’ll see some sort of bizarre law suit.
It will be interesting, come quitting time, if they are all still there, though I doubt they will be once it starts getting dark. All the entrances and exits in the building are closed, so I may have to spin out my M&S cocktail sausages and slices of Leerdammer cheese against a siege!
