More gardening and stuff!
Monday, August 5th, 2013 03:27 pmSaturday was too hot. Sorry, I shouldn’t complain about the weather, but it damn well was. So hot in fact, that other than wandering into town for a spot of grocery shopping, the heat has melted all other memories of the day from my poor, addled brane.
Actually, I have the feeling that we might have gone to the pub, too. That probably didn’t help the retentive ability of the old grey cells much, now I think about it.
Yesterday was rather more productive. We both woke up obscenely early for a Sunday, full of beans and bursting with energy (for a given value of beans, and energy, obvs.). A quick brekky of eggy toast was followed by some desultory gardening (Last week we bought some flowers. This week we planted them). The garden, blooming as ever, since it woke up after the long winter, has been relatively short of colour, with the exception of the rose bushes and the sweet peas. The remainder of the flowers have been and gone and the veggies are well past the flowering stage (though the lavender is still going well, now I think on it).
Anyway, I got medieval with the bush out front – the one that I thought at the end of winter might be dead (hah!). It’s had two massive haircuts this summer and anticipate giving it another before the year is out at this rate and Furtle planted a number of very colourful furze-like things, plus some begonias. We also shoved a miniature rose out front where the ‘perennial’ daisies were being rather less perennial than anticipated.
Later in the afternoon, we finally entice friend Glyn around for a visit and we had a splendid chat and afternoon tea (how middle class of us) outside in the sun, before rescuing some data from my old computer hard drive.
All in all, a very good weekend, which makes coming back to the office doubly annoying. Still, it only takes five days to get over the weekend, doesn’t it?
