Most interesting. It seems that [livejournal.com profile] barrettyman has been cloned. This should strike terror into the hearts of all who know him. Either that or the real, one true [livejournal.com profile] barrettyman was travelling incognito. My sanity finds the second option more reassuring, but then my sense of propriety would be offended since he failed to acknowledge a 'How Do?" from the seat behind him.

It's a no win situation.

Tonight, you see, was spent in the company of [livejournal.com profile] nortysarah and her friend, [livejournal.com profile] elani. we disappeared up town into the depths of Bloomsbury to see Michael Palin give a talk on his trip through the Himalayas - a sort of sneak preview of the TV show starting on Sunday. I think I shall have to remember to make time to watch the programme.

Palin comes across as a genuinely nice chap. He is witty, engaging, self deprecating and very entertaining. Not many people could meet the Dalai Llama and get into a conversation about his (the Dalai's) bowel troubles.

Anyway, the [livejournal.com profile] barrettyman clone was sitting directly in front of me. The young lady with him kept grinning and shaking her head when we mentioned in stage whisper that it might indeed be he, but no reaction from the person himself. The flat cap did not even twitch. Most disconcerting.

Anyway, at the end, I would have queued up for a signed copy of the book, but there were far too many people and my sciatica was beginning to kick in, so [livejournal.com profile] nortysarah and I took a gentle stroll back down to Tottenham Court Road tube, nattering about theatre while her friend stayed behind in the never ending queue for a book.

A good evening all told, though I was floored to find out that Palin's Around the World In 80 Days was 15 years ago, now.

Shower and bed now, I think.

Good night, world.

Yep, I spent two hours in the queue, and got home just before midnight, but it was well worth the wait! :-)

I rather wish now that I'd stayed and got one, too. Mind you, my leg isn't hurting now... ;-)
