Dentists

Well, I emailed them at work asking for some documents that I could work on to be forwarded to me, but so far I have not had any response. I shall do a little work on something else, that requires an initial draft just to show willing and then assume that all is well.

I have decided that visiting the hygienist is actually more fearsome than the dentist proper. It appears that despite daily brushing and the use of various mouthwashes 'recommended by dentists' my teeth continue to silt up. Less teeth, I think than a coral reef in Bryan's mouth. No matter how much plaque I think I've removed there is always more limestone for the hygienist to chisel out and they are no respecter of gums when they do this. More to the point, they seem to have some patented method of ensuring that nerve ends are coaxed to the gums when they bring out their stainless steel implements, ensuring both blood and anguish to accompany the worrying scratchy sound their work makes.

Still, I have survived and am celebrating with a nice cup of coffee. When I go back in three months, I may as well get my money's worth.

I was away playing games at a friend's in Marlow over the weekend. As there were only three of us there, we only managed the one game: 1830, one of the railway building and share trading games that we have played so much of over the years. The dynamic for three players is quite different from that for five or six, the number we normally try to involve. There's more to do for each player, since everyone can afford to launch and run more than one rail company each, but it seems to take longer even though you would think it all balanced out. Maybe it's just the way we play. Either way, it was good fun even if I came a sad third out of three.

Right; I'm going to finish my coffee and flick through The Times before deciding whether or not today counts as an unscheduled day off, or if I should be doing some work.

ooooooh, 1830! love it, love it, love it! I have it with all the updates and the extras that fill the box to bursting. My only problem is that no-one will play it with me. they just don't appreciate my love of railways. They won't even play railway rivals with me even though I have EVERY map plus a couple that were never published (that's what known the game designer does for you)
1830 mmmmmmmmmmmm

Hygienists are utterly evil. Maybe they are all dentist wannabes who can't pass the exams or something, I don't know. But finding a good one is like finding a reliable plumber. Nigh impossible and once you manage it you tag them and keep them forever.

Historically I wasn't good with dentists and hadn't been for a very long time until a friend went with to her husbands dentist (her husband being a similar tooth wimp) and helped me get through it. Which was fine until I had to see the hygeinist who promptly put me off for another 5 years. When I finally went back with a chipped tooth and was told 'hygienist for you' I checked if the old one was still there and when she heard the story my dentist suggested a specific hygienist from their batch who understood the whole 'not good with dentists' thing and was really great.

As a puppy I was blessed with a gorgeous hygienist who entranced my eight-year-old self. I loved going to the dentist then and have no worries even now!
