The Sunday round-up.

Having gone directly from 'unavailable' to out for delivery, I await, sometime next week, my Fantastic Four Omnibus vol. 1 from Amazon. I was right; someone had made a cock up and they sold it to me for little more than the difference between their regular price and the recommended retail price. That is to say I paid £22.99 instead of £45.99, discounted from £65. As much as I wanted it, there was no way, short of a sudden and unexpected massive infusion of surplus funds, that I would have paid even the £45.99.
I now have to hope that they make a similar error with volume 2 at some point. I am a patient man.
Last night
ellefurtle and I went to the pub with Miss Clark sans LJ and the redoubtable
mingmerciless, ostensibly to watch puny England put the mighty Andorra to the sword in the opening World Cup qualifier. The real reason, of course, was to drink beer, graze on unhealthy foods and catch up on nattering. This is just as well since a 2-0 win by England in a game where the quality gap should have been similar to that between a Premiership team playing a pub team, hardly flatters. To be honest, it was downright embarrassing - bad enough to be scoreless after 20 minutes, embarrassing at 30 and 'let us never speak of it again' at half time. Happily Joe Cole's brace after half time means that the Scots will not feel up to saying much after their perennial no-hopers got twonked by the invincible FYR Macedonia (catchy name, that) and we can blind ourselves to the realities of the England team until kick-off on Wednesday when we meet Croatia, who are actually a footballing force in Europe. Against Andorra, anything less than 5 goals was going to be an embarrassment and after last night's display, I'd think that conceding fewer than 3 against Croatia will count as progress.
Tonight I shall be on my own for the first time since we moved into The Carpathia. Furtle is off to Manchester, leaving around 4pm, for a course tomorrow. It is less the fact that it is an overnight stop in a hotel for a work-related course that is the annoyance and more the fact that it is a chunk out of a valuable weekend.
I am losing a chunk of weekend next week as I have to go to Bristol on Saturday for a live draft of an game I am involved in. In addition to drafting for myself, I agreed to do so for
colonel_maxim who cannot attend for obvious reasons, and who has done the chores for me in the past. Now, though, I find that I am going on my own and having to draft for a third team, too. I can live with that, I guess, though it will be a bit of a bind, but I must have words with the naughty Mr W who failed to let anyone other than me know that he couldn't make it and left me to tell them that as well. Ho hum.
I better look up the train timetables for next week. I estimate that it will take me about 3 hours to get from Whetstone to the hotel in Bristol, so that means getting up and leaving at Sparrowfart next Saturday. Marvellous.
