Mmm... new year spam
Monday, January 5th, 2009 10:58 amSo, first day back in the office and I find that there are a couple of hundred emails in my inbox, of which about ten are actually to do with work and another five or six emails from friends. The remainder is made up of spam from various places offering me consolation deals to increase the size of certain parts of my anatomy, or sell me impressive qualifications online.
Since we moved away from GroupWise the spam filter in this place has been pitiful.
Of course, being away, I had my out of office response set up, so each of these spams has generated an automated response. This in turn has generated a large number of ‘message undeliverable’ emails and other out of office replies from the poor schmucks whose email addresses were hijacked in the first place. With typical MicroSquash efficiency, these have generated out of office replies and so it goes. There does seem to be a point where even the mail system recognises that it’s flogging a dead horse, but by crackey, it takes a while for it to cotton on.
I suppose I better check my telephone messages, now. I doubt they’re very interesting.
