In a few moments I think I shall nip downstairs and have a snack. In a little over two hours we will be disappearing down the pub ready for the party. In the meantime, the chores are chored and I am all squeaky clean from the shower. I just need to put a lining on the old tum so that tonight's beer won't have an immediately deleterious effect on the constitution.

I don't know what they thought of us in Waitrose earlier: one bag of kettle chips, a six pack of Becks Pils, a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, four litres of bottled water and two different antacids...

There's some fun to be had in wandering into a shop and picking most bizarre combination of items you can come up with. I still remember the chashier's face when my mate Sally bought a jar of honey, a packet of razorblades and some condoms.
