Oh, what happened to you,
Whatever happened to me?
What became of the people
We used to be?

For some reason I woke up this morning with the theme tune to Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads in my head, and I can't shift it. It is just repeating endlessly in the back of my head to the point of annoyance. The essence of even marginally successful BBC TV comedy shows, I suppose.

It is particularly odd since the programme was never one of my favourites - although despite the continual looping in my head right now, I always liked the theme song. Maybe I am off on some unconscious nostalgia kick; if so, I'd much prefer to have Dad's Army wandering around my cranium. Or Man About the House - not because of the quality of the comedy of acting, though it had its moments, but because my febrile teenage libido fancied the hell out of Sally Thomsett.

I seem to have lost control of my own nostalgia, now.

It could have been worse - you could have had the "Multicoloured Swap Shop" looping away in there.

Whenever I'm listening to my boss, the theme tune to "The Magic Roundabout" starts up in my head, and much enjoyed it is too.

For some reason I can't stop whistling the Rentaghost theme tune. Always liked that programme.

Well they share a name, but not a tune...

Or even words.

So I wouldn't call it a cover me self.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, sirrah. A fine figure of a woman in her day.

Assuming that day wasn't during The Railway Children...
Well, on screen anyway, very Adult off set I hear.

Was she not actually a whole lot older in real life than the character she played in The Railway Children film? I'm sure I read somewhere that she had to have her chest bound to flatten it for her role... or did I dream it?

I was thinking more Man About the House. I've always liked a woman with sticky out teeth!

Mm.

Not a great fan of the Liver Birds as I recall. What was the name of the actress who replaced Polly James?

Elizabeth Estensen played Carol Boswell; I don't know if she was a relation of the later Boswells from Bread? Both by Carla Lane I believe ... I am shocked about you not being a great fan of The Liver Birds. Were they not the female equivalent of The Likely Lads? Discuss.
