Anyone who subscribes to Time Out or picks up the Metro on the train every morning will already know about this, but it’s funny enough to warrant adding here! This is a link to the website of one Croy Devenish-Phibbs, who purports to be 102 years old and trying to track down his family.

The Devenish-Phibbs family are clearly a rum bunch and would probably fit right in with the Addams Family. Like all the best jokes, this is played straight (ish) and you can even receive a prize for finding information on the family that Croy Devenish-Phibbs hasn’t already got.

The information seems to consist entirely of brass plaques on benches and trees…

Of the many posted, I think this may be my favouite...



The inscription reads:

The Reverend Abel Devenish-Phibbs

Whilst addressing a sermon to three disinterested parishioners he whimpered twice, unleashed a most monstrous fart and expired to the sound of an uncertain "Amen"

Curious, I looked up the scripture, which is clearly out of context for comedic reasons.

The ungodly [are] not so: but [are] like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

So, his "most monstrous fart" took care of the disinterested, therefore ungodly, congregation. Reminds me of the Christmas Eve, years ago, when I, the ungodly one, farted loudly at a silent midnight mass.
