Belt

I think maybe my belt is stretching.

For the past few days, when I have put my trollies on, my belt has been tending toward the next notch in, but it has felt just that little bit too tight, so I left it where I have been wearing it for the past few weeks. This morning I used the next notch in and it didn’t feel uncomfortably tight (though tighter), so I left it. Psychological boost and all that.

The trouble is, having found that both the belt and my tum were happy with the extra tightening, I did what I always do when that happens and zipped down to try out my leather jacket, which is the immediate incentive for losing weight (other than any more esoteric reasons of health and so on: vanity always wins out over logic). To my annoyance, it didn’t seem to be any different in fit to the last time I tried it. Don’t get me wrong, it is still a better fit, a much better fit, than six months ago, but…

My work jacket too, seems no looser.

I can only conclude that either my belt is stretching, or I am losing weight from the feet up. I hope it evens out or I shall look like a bloody bald flamingo in chinos. That’s not quite where I anticipated ending up when we started this weight loss thing.

And I’m not sure that I look any thinner, either. Where’s the ego-boosting reward?

My wife knows a lot about all this stuff. Some people put on weight in certain places, so they might be barrel-bellied but have chicken-legs, f'rinstance. Similarly, the weight, when we're losing it, might depart from certain areas before others. I was told twice yesterday that I look like I've lost weight lately. I don't often weigh myself so I hadn't noticed, and my clothes fit me about the same. When I stepped on the scales at home, later, though, I was surprisingly down to 218.

All I know is, it's a bloody pain in the bot!

I just want to wear my jacket - it's not too much to ask, surely! *grumble*

All I have ever found with this weight loss malarkey is that it never goes off the places you want it to and goes from the places you don't want it to. Quite often in the case of ladies it goes from erm shall we say their attributes rather than the waistline.

Congratulations on getting thus far Sir!

Yep pretty much agree with what everyone's saying here.

People will loose weight from a number of different areas depending on the method of weight loss, body type and gender.

Ironicly increased training/exercise may also cause weight gain as lean muscle weighs more than fat.

As a general rule though as you loose weight, you should find that your body shape will change together with most thining occuring round the middle where it come off he thighs, gluteus maximus region, and upper body.

I hate to say it but the army training programme which is designed for all levels of fitness drms into us that the calorific content of alchol is much underestimated....is is probably the reason why I have a tum.

Also one thing that isn't rarely mentioned is that after your mid thirties a caucasion male will replace 1lb of lean muscle wth 1lb of fat year on year, the fat being far harder to shift....

You are already doing VERY well indeed as indicated but the reducing notchyness of your belt - don't let the jacket dishearten you as if you continue as you ar you'll suddenly try it on and find the rest of you has caught up with th bits that have already lost weight.

I have gone from being able to being able to button my beloved leather jacket (how I smiled) to being unable to wear it for the most part because it is now too large. That being said, I have no intentions of regaining the weight just so that I can fit into it again ... but it will be a consolation if it ever happens accidentally.

The pounds I'm really losing with this damnable diet are the kind I spend in clothes shops as my normal clothes start (literally in some cases1) falling off me.

1 Most specifically the near disaster when buying a new (smaller) belt which convinced me that it was time to purchase some new (smaller) trousers.
