With today being the last day of summer here in the northern hemisphere (note how I use context for my rare southern hemisphere visitors?) and tomorrow being the equinox, my thoughts start turning to the darker nights and cooler weather and the hope that I can actually manage to shift another couple of inches from my gut so that wearing my leather jacket buttoned up is comfortable, rather than simply feasible.

The other thing that springs to mind, in an ironic turn of phrase for autumn, is the fact that we are just over a month away from Halloween. Now over the past couple or three years, following an idea in 2005 by [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis, I have tried with limited success, to stir up interest in an annual 500 word Christmas ghost (or horror) story challenge. It’s only intended to be a bit of fun coupled with the hope squeezing a bit of creativity out of people I know are capable, but who for whatever reason, rarely write. There have been some good stories submitted by a small, but enthusiastic band and I thought it might be fun to try for a Halloween challenge this year. Again, let’s try and keep them at 500 words.

By way of making this a little different to the Christmas ghost story challenge, I thought it might be fun for people to pick a line from a song and use that as inspiration for their 500 words.

Any takers, or am I shouting into the void?
