I thought I slept well enough last night, but seemingly not. I have that vacant-behind-the-eyes feeling and my arms feel a little heavy while I am typing. I guess I shall have to go bed a little earlier tonight to compensate, then.

Tomorrow I have arranged to work from home since the landlord and/or landlady is coming to The Carpathia with some worthy artisan in tow to ascertain the damage done to the place by the late mini-ice age and hopefully instigate repairs. Apart from the guttering outside, which is just inconvenient, the extractor fan and window in the bathroom need fixing. I strongly suspect that once the guttering is sorted, the slight damp problem on the ceiling will go away.

I have to confess that a part of me will miss having our repairs done for us when we have our own place, but on the other hand, such not inconsequential things as not having to move home ever again unless we want to, a small garden of our own and décor of our choice etc rather outweigh such considerations.

Even if [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle has it in mind to keep chickens…

Sounds like you're in much the same place as myself. I'm taking tentative steps towards the bottom of the property ladder away from rentals after a few incidents with useless landlords have taught me that maybe the lead weight of a mortgage is worth it for the freedom to fix a place and the lack of sudden 'rug-pulled-from-under-me' sensation of landlords deciding they want to sell.

Ok I won't introduce Elle to my sister then. She keeps chickens. One of them (now sadly demised) didn't like it outside and thought she ought to live in the house and was forever trying to get in (and succeeded).

You can hire contractors when you have your own place, you don't have to do the repairs yourself *chortles*

It's true. Bees are all well and good, but they are swift to anger and prod you with sharp bits.

I has chickens! rescue chickens! in a garden that is 18 feet by 15 feet I has four chickens.
They hates snow, hates it wiv a passion - actually no they stand in the gateway of their little run and peer out mournfully into their playground where all that horrible cold whitestuff is lying in wait. Not having a full set of feathers yet also makes you mournful and inclined to stay in the hen house.
Beware of foxes in North London, they are very brave and will kill for fun - I hates em

Ooh, chickens cool. Hope your landlord person makes it there safely today with all the snow! And Chris is quite good at the diy thing and enjoys an excuse to dig out the power tools. I still haven't agreed to the flame thrower. Or the chain saw. But it is his birthday soon...
