I shan't comment on this, since the story speaks for itself.

However, if you think this is wrong, maybe you should go here and sign the petition.

Feel free to visit the country, but pay for yourself as you spread intolerance.

Thank you for posting this. I've signed it and I'll pass it on to my meagre readership.

Un-bloody-believable! I wholeheartedly agree; not only is the hateful swine spreading a message of intolerance that is simply incompatible with life in the twenty-first century, but we're going to have to foot the £20Mn bill for the pleasure of having him here to do it? Fuck That!

*goes off to sign petition*

Will spread this around my readership as well, such as it is...

I agree wholeheartedly with DM's position that the Catholic Church has every right not to promote to bishoprics people whose lifestyles or beliefs are fundamentally incompatible with its teachings.

But that church doesn't have the right to attempt to demonise or discriminate against a group of people outside its own communion. That is against the secular law of this secular state.

If the Catholic Church doesn't wish to have me as a priest that's absolutely fine by me. But it certainly doesn't get to tell my government that giving me equal rights is wrong.

And I am certainly not happy that my dirty, sinful tax money will be used to fund this elderly fanatic's visit to my country to spread this unfair, unlawful and hateful position further.

I'm a practicing Roman Catholic, and I'm affraid I disagree completely with the Pope/Vatican on many issues including this. I have many gay friends and I cannot and won't uphold the view that they are wrong or sinful.

But don't worry because unless the church accepts/adopts a more liberal, pragmatic, progressive view that is more in keeping with the 21st Century than the 1st Century it won't last another 100 years let alone another 2,000 years.

All religions have visited terrible crimes on societies and their own churches...it's what religions do.

It's why fundimentally faith and religion are two different things. Faith is an empowering thing, religion is a controlling thing.

On this occaision the Pope's just being a bit of a berk.

But I can't be bothered to sign the petition because it'll amount to the square route of Jack...

On Sunday there was a speech/homily /guest appearance (robes and all ) from St Paul's Mission. They were tapping my parent’s congregation for a few £k to train African priests because no-one in the UK wants to be priests anymore. It costs £1000k to take a local man into the seminary and train them.

The Vatican could sell a gold cup (I’m sure they have a few), of a few items of cutlery and make 10s of £000s and train dozen's of priest rather than depending on the faithful and unquestioning to pay for it ....

I could write to them to point this out, but like a petition, it wouldn't amount to anything…..
