With unerring accuracy, one of my colleagues has booked a meeting with the Director on the exact time of the kick off of England’s only afternoon game in the group stages of the World Cup against Slovenia on 23 June. Within ten minutes she had received a polite email noting there was a clash of events.

The meeting has been rearranged.

I should at this juncture explain that the Director is also a woman.

that wouldn't wash here - if you want to be free at the time of a match then you should have booked it as annual leave

are you giving us an example of government "waste" - employees refusing to work because there is a football game?

:)

No I am giving you an example of flexibility.

If people take a couple of hours to watch the game (as we were allowed to do a few years ago), we make those couple of hours uop by tagging them on elsewhere in the working week. :-p
