I'm not one to have bad moods for very long being in my own estimation at least, a rather buoyant personality (by which I mean that inside my head I am generally feeling quite equable, thank you very much. It may annoy the Hell out of other people for all I know!).

But today I've been in a poor mood all day. I'm bored at work, not because there's nothing to do, but because it's currently not very entertaining. I've been very tired recently too, a lack of sleep exacerbated by the weather on top of the stress of moving. The house is coming together bit by bit, but it still doesn't quite feel like home and it's hard to relax after work because we're still decanting a three bedroom flat into a two bedroom house. For the past couple of years I have had to leave some of my favourite tranquilments boxed up for lack of space and now we have had to put them and more into the loft, so I get no enjoyment from them now, either. Still, these are all minor things and will get sorted over a period of time.

I feel more positive after a good feed, a couple of episodes of M*A*S*H and hugs from and a natter with My GirlTM. Of course, this mood recovery was temporarily arrested by the intelligence that one of the reasons this place was so appealing may soon disappear. Still. We're here, now and we'll get it sorted the way we want it. A few pictures here and there, some additional furniture and a bit of redecorating to suit our contrivances and all will be well.

I'm not looking forward to becoming a gardener, though. Oh boy, no. I wonder if we can hire a man to do it for us, for next to no outlay on our part? I expect not...

This isn't an average garden, and letting mint take it over would be a shame ....

My garden, on the other hand, is mainly poppies at the moment :-) I'm claiming it's a wildlife habitat (and I have lots and lots of bees!)

Keep telling yourself that. The difference between a wild garden and a patch of weeds is that a wild garden is in may way harder work than a pristine back yard.

Poppies are nice though.

There's nothing wrong with the garden other than a) three weeks' neglect in this heat has set it very much on the path to being a jungle, b) with a couple of exceptions I can't tell a weed from a proper plant, and c) I hate gardening.

Shrubs are your answer Mr Lea.

Buy a couple of Red Robins, Euonymus, Euphorbia, a Nandinia, and they'll provide great looking shrubby shapes and colour, while covering (blocking weeds) and you hardley need do anything to them other than trim them back with a pair of secateurs every couple of months...

You are welcome to don the green rubber jackboots of death and pass sentence on any unlucky item of vegetation in the garden.

We can probably rustle up fuds, too.

Wish I had the time but sadly my child seems to have entered the bonkers-mental stage of jis development so I think I'll be busy for 15 years or so : (

Mal can come too, if he doesn't mind being dive bombed by next door's swifts.

The garden deserves love. Give the garden love or pay some sort of garden prostitute to do it for you.
