I managed to get one more shelf finished and a single nail partially hammered into the final one before next door's baby woke up and we were stopped in our tracks by a polite knock on the door.

Leaving the office late and then stopping off for a couple of pints of restorative will do shocking things to your schedule. I shall finish the task tomorrow (well, strictly speaking, tonight) and then I can display all the relevant tranqilments in my own little clutter corner much, I suspect, to Furtle's delight.

Here endeth the entry.

a polite knock

As opposed to the proverbial irate ranty neighbour. Nice of them. So this means that nocturnal Krimso at ear-splitting volume is out of the question?

Well, we asked them if it was okay before I started as it was late-ish.

They said yes, but had a change of heart when the hammering woke up junior!

That's a shame...

I tend to figure that DIY is perfectly reasonable before 20:00hrs. Last minute drilling and hoovering up to 20:30 and then down tools by 21:00.

Bit difficult though if Junior's room adjoins the work zone and isn't well.... :o(

The baby is very young and is put to bed at about 7.30 in an adjoining room.

The last shelf will take less than 10 minutes when I get home tonight; all I have to do is line it up and hammer in 31/2 nails.

This is one of the reasons I'm glad I live in almost the middle of nowhere and my next door neighbour is a pub. While I don't drink, it is nice to know that other people are noisy late in to the night, although I did feel a bit guilty angle grinding up a tyre at gone 22:00... (As in I tried to finish the grinding bit as quickly as possible, not actually guilty enough to stop. I make a very bad neighbour.)

Shelves and nails, Hmmmmm. Always prefer screws with shelves.... cannot picture how you line up then hammer home three nails.
Head hurts now from thinking!
