Despite UPS’s erratic delivery mechanism that sometimes concocts an entirely different address to that it’s supposed to use I have now taken delivery of my latest consignment of snus, so I am set up into the New Year.

On a whim I ordered a couple of cans of Jakobsson’s Wintergreen flavour on special offer and now rather wish I had ordered a few more: it tastes great. I may have to ration my use of these pouches. It will be 3 or 4 months before I need to make another order.

I'm sure I've mentioned snus before!

I doubt it would be for you unless you are a smoker trying to break the habit - it is Swedish moist snuff that you stick in your gob. It's what I use to keep off the fags and in the New year sometime I aim to wean myself of the snus.

It comes in a vareity of flavours - most of them different tobacco flavours, but also wintergreen, mint, loganberry and so on.

Do you smoke a pipe? I recently bought Pa his usual Christmas present of two Falcon pipe bowls.

No, I stopped smoking nearly 4 years ago, hence the use of Snus.

My Dad and Grandad used to smoke pipes and I tried it very briefly, but I couldn't get on with them!

You import your own snus? Har. In my youth, even the girls snusade (which incidentally, also means "snoozed" in swedish). Not me, though but all for it.

I first discovered Snus in the mid 1990s, visiting friends in Uppsala, but gave up on it since at the time I was a smoker and it was impossible to get in the UK.

Of course these days, being able to buy it online direct from Sweden gets around the local ban (the point of sale is Stockholm, so it is legal). I doubt I would ever have managed to give up smoking without it - I tried many times over the years.

It remains to be seen if I can give up Snus, but that is something for another time!
