Blimey.

A few days ago over on Farcebørk I mentioned an insanely realistic sculpture of Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin.

Well here is one of Christopher Reeve as Superman...

This sculpture, created by artist Mike Hill, captures Christopher Reeve as Superman ... all 6 foot 4 inches of him. That's right, it's a complete statue and not just the head, unlike artist Jordu Schell's Cushing bust.

I think I'm right in saying that [livejournal.com profile] fencingsculptor knows this artist in some shape or form... Full article here.

Poor Mr Reeve looks like he's trying to hold in a fart.

The nose is a bit odd as is the expression, making the likeness a little off, but for all that it still looks more like a real person than a sculpt!

Yes I have met Mike Hill before, in fact he came to visit me when I still lived at home with Mum and Dad circa 1997..ish.

Mike Hill is a very well British 'Genre' sculptor specialising in Comic and Film related works. He was very prominant on the garage kit network right the way through the 1990's and started to work for established studios in the emerging market for prepainted polystone statues.

I wish I'd made more of my contacts. I just don't think I was ever going to be able to make their standard of work. :o(

OH that expression is just perfect! Christopher Reeve looks like he has a plastic face anyway and his nose is very definitely like that. I find it eerily creepy, but I also found him eerily creepy so hated watching the films, any films with him in. I bet he was really lovely in real life but on film, nope my flessh is crawling as I think of it.

Big envy for the talent of the sculptor.

Now I look at it again, the nose isn't actually crooked, it's the way the shadow falls that makes it look odd.
