Dowager #01
Thursday, January 12th, 2012 08:58 amIt's about a year since I decided it might be fun to have a spoof portrait of an Aunt Agatha style dowager at the top of the stairwell in the Gin Palace. She will stare disapprovingly at everyone who passes.
Last night I finally made a start on the project.
It is not really what I'm after and there will have to be at least one more attempt to get the look right before I recreate the outline on larger paper.
It has illustrated to my satisfaction that I am horribly out of practice.

Date: 2012-01-12 11:22 am (UTC)Apart from the lack of practice and consequently poor drawing, I want a disapproving glare. I knew I wasn't going to get one with the first draft because I was just trying out the pencils after over a year of idleness.
Next time will be better.

Date: 2012-01-12 01:20 pm (UTC)I'm also having difficulty finding decent reference material; I know in my mind what I'm after; something like barbara cartland but with a glare rather than a smile, but dressed more like Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey...
But first I need to brush up on my pencils; I'm horribly out of practice. And yes, you could draw if you put your mind to it. You used to be able to draw - it's still in there somewhere, it just needs to be dug out and worked on, same as me!
