For the first time since the NWO sequence wrapped in (I think) May 2006, I spent the weekend in a field, surrounded by enthusiastic and often boisterous people dressed in a range of costumes to represent variously, the ancient civilisations of Rome, Greece, Egypt, Persia and Carthage. I myself slapped on some theatrical make up and briefly played a Minoan, brought out of watery death and exile these past thousand years to judge the Arena games.
I grabbed this photo on my iPhone after I'd got rid of the costume, but before I removed the makeup. The light was poor, so it came out a little more yellow than it should have. I have desaturated the colours and tried to make it look closer to how it did in reality, but with limited success.

For your jollity and possible consternation, here are a few Egyptians getting ready to go into combat. But not until the revivified Mummy has finished his fag break...

I am still not sure that wandering around in fields for an entire weekend and sleeping in tents is my cup of tea. All I know is right now that I had to book Monday off work because I was so tired.
And don't get me going on people who cannot keep their hormones in check when sharing a tent; no matter how big the tent may be. Not for the first time in my life I have had to pretend to be asleep while people who are old enough to know better failed to get a room to themselves.
Overall, though, I had a better time than I feared I might. I have ten months to decide whether to do it again, though I remain interested in contributing to the writing.

Date: 2012-08-14 11:26 am (UTC)I wouldn't pretend to be asleep. I'd get up, go to the loo, come back, get up, turn on a torch and generally make it impossible for them to continue.
