For the first time since the NWO sequence wrapped in (I think) May 2006, I spent the weekend in a field, surrounded by enthusiastic and often boisterous people dressed in a range of costumes to represent variously, the ancient civilisations of Rome, Greece, Egypt, Persia and Carthage. I myself slapped on some theatrical make up and briefly played a Minoan, brought out of watery death and exile these past thousand years to judge the Arena games.

I grabbed this photo on my iPhone after I'd got rid of the costume, but before I removed the makeup. The light was poor, so it came out a little more yellow than it should have. I have desaturated the colours and tried to make it look closer to how it did in reality, but with limited success.

For your jollity and possible consternation, here are a few Egyptians getting ready to go into combat. But not until the revivified Mummy has finished his fag break...

I am still not sure that wandering around in fields for an entire weekend and sleeping in tents is my cup of tea. All I know is right now that I had to book Monday off work because I was so tired.

And don't get me going on people who cannot keep their hormones in check when sharing a tent; no matter how big the tent may be. Not for the first time in my life I have had to pretend to be asleep while people who are old enough to know better failed to get a room to themselves.

Overall, though, I had a better time than I feared I might. I have ten months to decide whether to do it again, though I remain interested in contributing to the writing.

Could you stick that pictuer behind a cut, hon? It's playing merry hell with the formatting of my flist.

Also, I'm mildly terrified about someone smoking in that getup...

I was saying to Tony that I would love to try LRP to make new friends, but I'd prefer to do it over an evening more regularly than once a year in a field. Perhaps I need to look at tabletop games! Love the picture of the mummy have a cig!

(Oh btw I renamed my journal - this is Tracy here! Somehow I appear to have accidentally lost all my friends in the renaming process, so sorry if this causes confusion.)

Anyone over about 25 is old enough to know better and ought to be able to get a room.

I wouldn't pretend to be asleep. I'd get up, go to the loo, come back, get up, turn on a torch and generally make it impossible for them to continue.

I think you must be. It's not unlikely that I'd have thrown things at them!

A cricket-styel commentary would work "oh jolly good, that's the ticket, get stuck in" that sort of thing : )

LOL. Definitely not just pretending to be asleep. Where's the fun in that?
